Benefits of Reading Quran with Tajweed
INTRODUCTION
Reciting the Quran is a fundamental act of worship, and the art of doing so with precision and beauty is known as Tajweed. The word “Tajweed” literally means “to make better” or “to improve,” and it refers to the set of rules that govern the correct pronunciation and articulation of the Quranic text. Learning and applying Tajweed when reading the Quran offers a multitude of spiritual, linguistic, and personal benefits. Here are some of the benefits of reading the Quran with Tajweed : –
1- A Deeper Connection with Allah
Tajweed transforms the act of reading from a simple recitation into a meditative and spiritual experience. By focusing on the proper pronunciation, rhythm, and melody, the reciter is able to engage more deeply with the divine message, which can lead to a stronger spiritual bond with Allah and a sense of tranquility.
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا
2- Spiritual and Religious Benefits
Following the Sunnah : The Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with Tajweed, and he in turn taught it to his companions in the same way. By reciting with Tajweed, Muslims are emulating the Prophet’s recitation. This act is seen as a sign of respect and reverence for Allah’s words.
3- Earning Greater Rewards
Islam holds that every letter of the Quran recited earns a good deed, which is then multiplied by ten. Reciting with Tajweed, which ensures the accuracy of each letter, maximizes this reward. Furthermore, the effort of those who struggle with recitation but persist in learning and applying Tajweed is said to be rewarded doubly.
that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” [At- Tirmidhi].
and The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
4- Protection from Errors
Tajweed rules act as a safeguard against making mistakes that could alter the meaning of the words. The Arabic language is nuanced, and a slight mispronunciation can completely change the intended message. Learning Tajweed helps the reciter to avoid these errors, ensuring the integrity of the Quran’s message.
5- A Means of Intercession
The Quran is believed to intercede on behalf of its reciters on the Day of Judgment. By striving to perfect one’s recitation with Tajweed, an individual not only seeks a closer relationship with the Quran but also hopes to be among those for whom it will intercede.
That The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Recite the Qur’ān, for on the day of resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite it. Recite the two shining ones, Baqara and sūra Āl Imrān (Qur’ān, 2 and 3). for on the day of resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks* pleading for those who recite them. Recite sūra al-Baqara, for using it produces blessing and abandoning it produces regret, and the slothful are unable to recite it.” [Sahih]
And he ,peace be up on him said “The Qur’an and its people who applied it, will be brought on the Day of Resurrection preceded with Surat Al-Baqarah and Surat Al-‘Imran arguing on behalf of those who applied them” [Muslim].
6- Improved Pronunciation and Recitation Skills
Tajweed rules provides a systematic approach to mastering the correct articulation points (Makharij) and characteristics (Sifaat) of each Arabic letter. This leads to a clear and accurate recitation that is both beautiful to listen to and easy for others to understand.
7- Strengthened Memorization
The rhythmic and melodic nature of Tajweed aids in the memorization of the Quran. By associating the correct sounds and patterns with specific verses, the reciter can more easily internalize and recall the verses.
8- Cultivating Discipline and Patience
The journey of learning Tajweed requires dedication, patience, and consistent practice. This process helps individuals develop mental discipline and perseverance, which are valuable qualities in all aspects of life.
